Village street closures this Sunday for Heart of the Foothills event

The Golden Streets Heart of the Foothills open street event will take place in the cities of Claremont, Pomona, La Verne, and San Dimas on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Streets in the Claremont Village, including First Street from Indian Hill to College Avenue and Arrow Highway from Towne Avenue to College Avenue, will be partially closed to vehicle traffic. Beginning at 5 a.m. Sunday morning, parking will not be permitted along First Street in the Village from Indian Hill east to College Avenue.

Modeled after other “open streets” or “ciclovia” events that have been organized around the world and across the United States, Golden Streets temporarily opens stretches of roadway throughout the San Gabriel Valley for people to walk, jog, skate, bike and more. The event series is organized by ActiveSGV, an SGV-based nonprofit organization dedicated to realizing a safer, more sustainable and equitable San Gabriel Valley.

Organizers emphasize that there is no “right” way to experience 626 Golden Streets Heart of the Foothills. Participants may join and depart the event route anywhere they wish. Guests are only asked to “be considerate and courteous of others along the way, enjoy the event at your own pace, and check out the many local businesses, organizations, community groups and more who can be found along the event routes.”

Courier Place residents in Claremont will need to enter and exit the apartment complex through the driveway to the south on Spring Street, as College Avenue and First Street will be closed off from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Further, residents who live on the north side of Arrow Highway between Towne Avenue and Cambridge—including Princeton, Piedmont, Marywood, Towne Center, and in the Claremont Village Apartments—will be offered one-way, westbound access on Arrow Highway to enter and exit their homes. To return home, residents must use southbound Cambridge Avenue off Bonita to westbound Arrow Highway.
